    Our Capital Campaign
    • Founded in 1969, The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in Richardson, Texas, is a rapidly growing public research university that offers innovative programs and a full range of undergraduate, master, and Ph.D. degrees in science, technology, engineering, the arts, social sciences, mathematics, and management.

Newman Connection estimates that 80% of students stop practicing their faith at some point during college, and only 15% look for a campus ministry on their own. Currently, the university has almost 30,000 students. Newman Connection estimates that approximately 20 percent of the student body, or 6,000 students, are Catholic, representing a significant opportunity for the Diocese of Dallas and UTD’s Newman Catholic Ministry.

With an estimated 6,000 Catholics on campus, there is a  tremendous opportunity to meet the spiritual needs of a population of students seeking a relationship with Christ and serve as a beacon of joy and hope. In the words of Bishop Burns, “We have to spiritually feed the young people and provide for their continued Catholic formation while in a secular school setting. Effective campus ministries are vital for the future of the Church.” To that end, the establishment of a dedicated home for UTD Catholic Campus Ministry will permit the FOCUS missionaries to more effectively minister to students, faculty, and community members. It is of paramount importance that this is a sacred space that is welcoming and conducive for worship and prayer with access to the sacraments and conveniently adjacent to the UTD Campus, helping to transform the apostolic mission of the future of the Church in North Texas.

The future of a strong Catholic Church must be focused on strengthening today’s Catholic young adults in the faith, especially during their college years. 70% of UTD Alumni remain in North Texas post-graduation, and many of them naturally transition to become involved in area Young Adult Ministries established in neighboring parishes. Being able to accompany these students during their young adult formation and addressing their spiritual needs now results in post-graduate young adults that are more likely to regularly attend Mass, volunteer in their parishes, and consider their vocation to marriage or religious life. Establishing the University Catholic Center convenient to the UTD campus with a proper sanctuary is essential to serve the growing needs of this vibrant Catholic community.

    • We had such a great time (on our visit) and were so blown away by the reverence and enthusiasm of the students and the vision Bishop Burns and Father Tymo have for the University Catholic Center.

    • A Catholic Presence on Campus

These bold changes proposed for the building's facade will help all who pass by see the Catholic presence. Students who see our building from the main campus will know they're looking at a welcoming church where they can make their spiritual home while at UT Dallas. The glass and stone facade features a prominent glass cross, opening to a clerestory that runs from the baptistery to the sanctuary, allowing plenty of natural light into the worship space.

  • Our Current Phase

    • Phase II of our capital campaign involves replacing a 20-office suite with a new chapel that will accommodate more than 200 worshipers. Our new chapel will include:

      • Permanent seating for worshipers,
      • A permanent confessional,
      • A dedicated sacristy,
      • Multiple votive areas,
      • Storage for altar goods and decorations, and
      • Direct access to our Eucharistic chapel and prayer garden.

    • Adoration Always Available

The glass wall proposed for the Eucharistic Chapel allows natural light to fill the chapel, while benches in the outdoor prayer garden allow the faithful to spend time in adoration while enjoying the beautiful weather. Students and staff can spend time with Jesus even when the building is closed.
